Aerospace Workforce Transition (AWT) WORKSHOPS

Each of the workshops is designed to target specific employment needs and offer solutions to aerospace job seekers looking for assistance.

Course Criteria

1. Participants must be eligible for the Aerospace Workforce Transition (AWT) Program as Incumbent aerospace workers who have either already lost their jobs or who may become dislocated by the retirement of the Space Shuttle/Constellation programs AFTER July 1, 2008.

2. Participants must create an Employ Florida Marketplace account prior to attending the workshop.

3. Participants should Dual Register, and become part of the Aerospace Transition Database, to gain full advantage of services and options available.

Notes:

Participants must be at least 17 years of age or older.

On-time arrival policy:  No one will be admitted once the session begins.

There is NO COST to attend the workshops, but space is limited.

Employees of NASA contractors and subcontractors please note that per NASA Procurement, attendance at this workshop shall be done on personal time and shall not be charged to work hours or administrative leave hours.

(For workshops held within the KSC gates, participants must be badged for access to Kennedy Space Center to attend.)
Some of the core workshops are:

AWT Training & Scholarship Orientation
Workshop participants will learn about AWT program requirements for AWT Scholarships for education and training.  The process for obtaining scholarships will be explained.  No pre-registration is required for Orientation Workshop. Limited Class Size First come, first served.

Getting the Most Out of Your Registration on Employ Florida Marketplace (EFM)
Participants will learn how to get the most out of a complete registration in Employ Florida Marketplace (EFM) including background information, obtaining job skills, and automated resume building.  The objective is to have a complete registration in EFM to be properly matched to job openings.  Please bring a draft resume, along with your user name and password to EFM.  Pre-registration is required. Class size is limited.

Interviewing Skills and the Job Search Process
Receive up-to-date information about employability skills, labor market research, interviewing styles and interview questions.

Preparing for the Interview
Interviewing techniques have changed over the last several years.  This workshop covers various interviewing styles, the 10 TOUGHEST questions asked, and how to handle interviewing STRESS!

Resume Writing Lab, Part 1
Discover tips, techniques and styles for developing resumes’, cover letters and the all important thank you note.  Learn how to critique and develop a Value-Based resume that speaks to the job description and the EMPLOYER; utilize the Optimal Resume and other resume templates for resume development; and develop portfolios complete with References and Case Studies.

Resume Writing Lab, Part 2
Work one-on-one with staff members to review your current resume and develop a Value-Based resume to better market your skills to employers.

Financial Strategies for a Successful Retirement
Four Part Course including the following topics: Financial Basics, Retirement Income, Investments, Risk Management, Tax Strategies and Estate Planning.

Personal Wealth Management
Discusses the following topics:  How Insurance Works, Cash Management Techniques, Investment Planning, Tax Strategies, Retirement Planning and Estate Planning.

Unemployment Compensation Information
Gain valuable knowledge regarding methods for filing an unemployment compensation claim, information about claim processing and a question/answer period.

Overview of Community Resources
Learn about various service organizations within the community and how to access their assistance.
